DAVOS 2025: From Challenges to Opportunities

After another scrambled week around the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos – meeting friends while connecting with business leaders from around the world – I am reminded first hand about the gravity of discussions, the diversity of insights, and most importantly the urgency for action. As global leaders convened to address the most pressing challenges of our time, three interconnected themes dominated my experience: the need for innovative finance to address systemic global issues, the accelerating impacts of climate change, and the call for leaders to go from a shareholder to a stakeholder view leveraging their businesses as a “force for good”. These align perfectly with my work at KOIS and resilienture (“RESI”), as well as my lifelong dedication to fostering impactful leadership.

Our Compass for an Uncertain Future

The economic shifts we are witnessing, often referred to as “Trumponomics 2.0,” have heightened the importance of blended finance. The emphasis on protectionist policies and shifting global trade dynamics has reinforced the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration to fill gaps left by traditional funding mechanisms. At KOIS, we design innovative financial instruments that unlock private capital for public good, addressing issues ranging from healthcare access to sustainable infrastructure. The dialogues in Davos underscored a growing recognition: impact cannot thrive without financial innovation.

One particular takeaway was the rising role of catalytic capital in amplifying private-sector contributions to social and environmental goals. We must think beyond returns, instead embracing finance as a vehicle for systemic change, being a conviction that shapes every project I undertake.

Our Call to Action on Climate Resilience

Climate change was more than a topic; it was a presence that permeated every conversation. From Los Angeles to Valencia and the East Coast of the United States, extreme weather events continue to underscore the urgency for action. Through Resilienture, we champion nature-based solutions and innovative financing to safeguard vulnerable communities. Reshore360, our flagship initiative, exemplifies this mission, combining public-private partnerships with ecological restoration to bolster coastal resilience.

In Davos, there was a palpable shift in mindset that resilience is no longer optional as it is essential. As leaders, we must prioritise integrating climate resilience into national and local strategies. Not just as a response to disasters but actually as a preventive framework. The WEF showcased inspiring examples of scalable solutions, and it’s my hope to adapt and implement these learnings through RESI’s global partnerships.

Our Call for Stakeholder Leadership

Perhaps the most profound discussions this week revolved around the evolution of leadership. The WEF reminded us that the complexities of today’s challenges demand leaders who think beyond shareholders and embrace a broader, stakeholder-oriented approach. This is a call to leverage businesses as a “force for good” aligning corporate strategies with the needs of employees, communities, the environment, and future generations.

Moving from a shareholder to a stakeholder perspective is not just an ethical imperative, but much more a business opportunity. Companies that focus on purpose and impact are proving more resilient, innovative, and attractive to both customers and investors. This shift reflects a deeper understanding that businesses thrive when the ecosystems around them thrive.

At YPO and through my work with KOIS and Resilienture, I encourage leaders to adopt this mindset, transforming their enterprises into vehicles for systemic change. Whether through investments, sustainable operations, or bold corporate goals, we must act as stewards of the world’s resources and champions for equity. In Davos, I saw first hand many inspiring examples of this transformation, like with the participation on the roundtable of Microsoft and Goodwall, with the confidence that this type of partnership is truly transformative for our next generation.

Our Shared Responsibility

My journey has taught me that change requires courage and collaboration. Davos is a microcosm of the potential we can achieve when diverse minds unite to address humanity’s shared challenges.

As I am leaving Davos, I carry with me not just ideas, but a renewed sense of responsibility. In the coming months my aim is to translate the insights from Davos into actionable projects through KOIS, RESI, and my broader network. Whether in the form of innovative finance, resilience solutions, or leadership development, the goal remains the same: to impact lives, share profits, and build a more equitable and sustainable world.

After all, leadership that truly matters is leadership that makes a difference: “Impact lives, share profits”!
